Artificial Anxiety: How to Control What You Can In An Ever-Changing World of AI

Dr. Jill Schiefelbein

Most books about AI focus on tools. This book focuses on people.

As artificial intelligence transforms industries, workplaces, and everyday life, many professionals find themselves caught between curiosity and concern. They know AI matters, but they don’t know where to start. They’re overwhelmed by jargon, skeptical of the hype, and worried about what it means for their future.

In Artificial Anxiety, communication expert and educator Dr. Jill Schiefelbein, explores the very human fears behind AI adoption—from fear of the unknown and job displacement to distrust, overwhelm, and the pressure to keep up.

Combining research, real-world examples, communication theory, and practical frameworks, Dr. Schiefelbein helps readers:

  • Understand why AI creates anxiety and uncertainty

  • Separate hype from reality

  • Build confidence using AI tools strategically

  • Identify uniquely human strengths that remain irreplaceable

  • Lead teams through AI-driven change

  • Create practical AI adoption strategies rooted in trust and purpose

Rather than teaching readers how to become AI experts, Artificial Anxiety teaches them how to become adaptable, informed, and confident participants in an AI-enabled world.
